The use of the camera

Often your preferred view can be easily identified and photographed from a position {a} that will define the architecture, and explain how the building relates to its surroundings. This photograph will provide all the information that is necessary and be mutually understood as the contents of the finished work. Additional photography is usually taken to assist with detail during the creation of the watercolour.

However in some situations it is impossible to obtain an uninterrupted view of the building and a series of photographs are taken from multiple viewpoints [b]. These are then used to create a sketch drawing, with the building as the focal point. This is submitted for agreement to the view before the finished painting is commenced.
